Mumbai: The BJP has chosen about 30 names for the upcoming Maharashtra Legislative Council elections. The list was made in a meeting in Mumbai and sent to party leaders in Delhi for final approval.
Some names in the list are Madhavi Naik, Dr. Upendra Kothekar, Manoj Kotak, Keshav Upadhye, Ravi Anaspure, Rajesh Pandey, Dayashankar Tiwari, Ram Satpute, Ranjitsinh Nimbalkar, Sanjay Kaka Patil, Vivek Kolhe, Jagdish Mulik, Pramod Jathar, Sanjay Kenekar, Archana Patil Chakurkar, Dadarav Keche, and Sanjay Bhende.
Sources say BJP may not give tickets to leaders who lost recent Lok Sabha or Assembly elections. The party wants to give a chance to new faces and party workers instead. They will also look at social balance while picking candidates.
A senior leader said it is not right to give posts to those who cannot win elections. This may upset some big leaders.
Voting for 10 seats will take place on May 12.
Pragya Satav, who recently joined BJP from Congress, is likely to get a ticket. BJP may win about five seats. If Satav gets one, others will compete for the rest.
The final decision will be taken by party leaders in Delhi soon.
