Mumbai: Maharashtra is getting unexpected rain in the middle of summer. This rain, along with strong winds and hail, has badly damaged crops and fruit farms. Farmers are already facing rising prices, and now this weather has made things worse.
According to the India Meteorological Department, the weather will stay the same on April 4. Many areas may get rain, thunder, lightning, and strong winds of 30–50 km/h. Some places may also see hail. A yellow alert has been given to 16 districts in Vidarbha, Marathwada, and central Maharashtra.
In Bhandara, rain with thunder was seen at night. Some places had heavy rain, while others had light rain. Farmers growing maize, vegetables, and mangoes are worried because their crops are getting damaged. Power cuts also happened in some areas.
In Nandurbar, the damage is big. About 62 villages are affected, and 954 farmers have suffered losses. Crops on 832 hectares of land are damaged. Onion, maize, wheat, banana, papaya, and mango crops are badly hit. Farmers are asking for quick help from the government.
In Washim, strong winds and rain caused a tree to fall on a road, stopping traffic for some time. Luckily, no one was hurt.
In Sangli, especially in Jat area, hail and rain have damaged crops like maize, onion, and pomegranate. Fruits like grapes and mangoes are also affected. Strong winds caused trees to fall and power cuts in many places.
The next 48 hours are important, as more rain and strong winds are expected. People, especially farmers, are advised to stay careful.
