New Delhi : Tensions in the Middle East are increasing as US President Donald Trump claimed that American forces carried out strong airstrikes on Iran’s important Kharg Island. He said the operation was done by the United States Central Command (CENTCOM). According to him, the attacks destroyed several Iranian military positions on the island.
Trump shared the information on social media and said the bombing was one of the most powerful attacks carried out by the US in the region. He also said the operation targeted only military locations. Oil storage and export facilities on the island were not attacked to avoid major damage to the global oil supply.
Kharg Island is very important for Iran because most of the country’s oil is exported from this island. It is located in the Persian Gulf and handles nearly 90 percent of Iran’s oil exports. Reports say the island can load millions of barrels of oil onto ships every day.
Trump also warned Iran about the safety of ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. He said if Iran tries to block or disturb ships in this sea route, the US could take stronger action. This route is very important because a large part of the world’s oil passes through it.
Meanwhile, the United States has started increasing its military presence in the region. Reports say about 2,500 Marines and three warships have been sent there. Trump said the latest attack is a strong warning and more action could happen if the situation gets worse.
