New Delhi: A U.S. panel has made a controversial suggestion about two Indian organisations — Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Research and Analysis Wing (RAW). The recommendation came in the latest report by the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF).
In its 2026 report, the commission asked the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump to think about taking action against these organisations. It suggested that their assets in the United States could be frozen and their members could be stopped from entering the country.
The commission also said that U.S. weapons sales and trade with India should be connected to the issue of religious freedom. According to the report, America should review its defence deals with India if there are concerns about religious rights.
The report also referred to some incidents of violence and tension reported in Maharashtra while explaining its concerns.
However, the Indian government strongly rejected the report. Officials said the findings are biased and do not show the true situation in India. India has often said that such foreign reports try to interfere in the country’s internal matters.
