New Delhi: A 23-year-old Indian pilot showed great courage during rising tensions in the Middle East by safely bringing 169 Indians back home. Deepika Adhana, a pilot with Air India Express, carried out the rescue flight despite the uncertain situation caused by conflict involving Israel, Iran, and the United States. Before leaving, she told her mother, “Mom, bye… I don’t know if I will return,” showing the tense situation around the mission.
Deepika received the flight assignment suddenly on March 6, only a couple of hours before departure. The flight was headed to Ras Al Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates to bring Indian passengers back. The operation had an all-women crew, including Captain Jaswinder Kaur and four female cabin crew members. Despite the pressure, the team prepared quickly and decided to complete the mission like a normal flight.
The aircraft landed in Ras Al Khaimah around the afternoon, where the airport looked quieter than usual because of the situation in the region. Within about an hour, 169 Indian passengers boarded the plane and the flight took off for New Delhi. During take-off there was a brief moment of tension when contact with air traffic control stopped for a short time, but communication soon returned and the flight continued safely.
The plane finally landed at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, where passengers thanked the crew for bringing them home safely. Deepika, who is from Faridabad, said her dream of becoming a pilot was inspired by her grandfather. Her brave effort in this difficult situation has now become an inspiring story for many young people across India.
