Mumbai: After the death of Ajit Pawar, changes were made in the Maharashtra government. All his departments, except the Finance Department, were given to Sunetra Pawar. She became Deputy Chief Minister and also got the Excise, Sports and Youth Welfare, and Waqf departments. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis kept the Finance Department with himself.
After this, there was talk that the Finance Department was taken away from the Nationalist Congress Party by the BJP. But senior leaders from the party said this is not true. They said the Finance Department may return to the party in the next three to four months.
Ajit Pawar had handled the Finance Department for many years. He had presented the state budget 11 times. After his sudden death, party leaders and the Chief Minister decided that the Finance Department should stay with Fadnavis for some time.
Sources also said that Fadnavis spoke with Sunetra Pawar about giving the Finance Department back. Parth Pawar and Jay Pawar were also present in the meeting. A final decision is likely to be taken soon.
