Mumbai: Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule has reacted strongly to a sting shown by Zee 24 Taas called ‘Operation Khairat’. The program was aired on Wednesday evening and included his name along with the Revenue Department.
Bawankule said the report wrongly linked him to the issue. He claimed that some people are trying to harm the department’s image and create doubt in the minds of the public. He said the sting was made to spoil the reputation of government officers.
The minister has decided to file a ₹100 crore defamation case against the channel. He has also asked for both civil and criminal action to be started. He warned that action will be taken against anyone spreading false or confusing information.
He made it clear that he has not taken any decision in this matter. He also said he did not use any special powers related to the case. According to him, the Inspector General of Registration (IGR) handled the issue by following proper legal rules.
Bawankule added that such sting operations should not be used to pressure officials. He said spreading half information without understanding the law is wrong and should be opposed.
