Mumbai: Teachers across Maharashtra are facing a big problem. The dates of local body elections and the CTET exam are on the same days.Voting for Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections will be held on 7 February. Counting of votes will happen on 9 February. At the same time, the CTET exam is scheduled on 7 and 8 February.
Many teachers have been given election duty on the voting day. Teachers who have the CTET exam on 7 February may miss their exam. Teachers whose exam is on 8 February may also face trouble if their exam centre is far away or in another district. The CTET exam is very important for teachers. It is compulsory for their job. Because of this clash, teachers are feeling stressed and confused.
Teacher unions have asked the government to remove teachers from election duty on exam days. They want other arrangements so teachers can attend the exam. The election dates were changed after three days of state mourning were announced following the death of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar. The voting date was moved from 5 February to 7 February, which caused this problem.
Some teacher groups have also asked to delay the CTET exam. But CTET is held by the central government, so only the central authorities can take a decision.Right now, teachers are waiting for a clear decision. They fear losing the chance to appear for the CTET exam.
