Pune: Maharashtra will vote for 29 municipal corporations on January 15, 2026. But before the voting, the state’s politics has become very confusing.Political parties that were once together in alliances are now fighting against each other in many cities. Because of this, people are finding it difficult to understand which party is with whom.
After Ajit Pawar separated from Sharad Pawar and split the NCP, the situation changed even more. Still, in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, both NCP groups have decided to contest the elections together. At the state level, Ajit Pawar is working with the BJP, but in Pimpri-Chinchwad, he is contesting against the BJP. This shows that local politics is very different from state politics.
The effect of these changing political combinations will be known on January 16, 2026, when the election results are declared.
Meanwhile, MP Supriya Sule criticised the BJP. She said that the current political situation in Maharashtra is something people have never seen before. She also pointed out that the BJP criticises Ajit Pawar publicly but works with him politically, which she said is confusing.
About the possibility of both NCP groups coming together, Supriya Sule said she cannot comment without hearing Ajit Pawar’s full statement. She clearly said that the two NCP groups are together only for Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, and in other parts of the state, parties are taking decisions based on local conditions.
She also added that family relations have remained normal, even though political differences existed earlier and still exist today.
