Mumbai: In Mumbai, a political controversy has started just before the celebrations of Shiv Jayanti in Maharashtra.Congress state president Harshvardhan Sapkal recently spoke about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and also praised the work of Tipu Sultan. Some people felt that he compared the two leaders. After this, leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) strongly criticized him. They said his statement hurt the feelings of Shivaji Maharaj’s followers.
As the issue grew, Sapkal said his words were misunderstood. He claimed that the BJP spread his statement in a wrong way on purpose. He said he had no intention of hurting anyone’s feelings.Sapkal later shared a message on Facebook. In his post, he said he was sorry if his statement hurt any Shivaji Maharaj supporters. He also said he respects Shivaji Maharaj and that his words were taken out of context.The controversy created tension in some areas. Reports said that Sapkal even received threats after the statement. However, he has now expressed regret and appealed for peace.
