New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi strongly criticised the central government over India’s progress in modern technology like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and robotics. While speaking to students at a college in Kerala, he said India is far behind countries like the United States and China in these advanced fields.
Rahul Gandhi said India has a huge amount of valuable data, but the country is not using it properly. According to him, much of this data is being controlled by foreign technology companies. He compared India with China and said Chinese apps and platforms are mostly controlled within their own country to protect their data.
He also raised questions about the India–US technology and trade relationship. Rahul Gandhi said that if India wants to become strong in the AI sector, the country must create its own technology and control its own data instead of depending on other countries.
The Congress leader also criticised big Indian business groups, saying the country needs more companies that actually manufacture and develop technology inside India.
During the interaction, Rahul Gandhi also spoke about the education system. He claimed that many university leaders are being selected because of their connection with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He warned that if educational institutions are influenced by a single ideology, it could harm the independence of education in the country.
Meanwhile, a recent incident at an international AI summit in New Delhi also created controversy. At the event held at Bharat Mandapam, a university displayed a robotic dog and claimed it was their own invention. Later it was found that the robot actually belonged to a Chinese company. This created embarrassment and criticism online.
After the incident, members of the Indian Youth Congress protested at the venue and accused the government of failing to promote original innovation in India.dia Mornings.
