New Delhi: A controversy has grown over an NCERT Class 8 textbook chapter that mentions “corruption in the judiciary.” According to government sources, PM Narendra Modi has said that responsibility must be fixed and questioned how such content was approved.
Prime Minister, who is currently on a visit to Israel, expressed concern and asked officials who was monitoring the textbook content. The issue has triggered political and legal debate across the country.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said the government respects the judiciary and had no intention of hurting its image. He expressed regret over the matter and assured that the government would follow whatever decision the court takes.
Earlier, the Supreme Court of India strongly objected to the chapter’s references and issued a show-cause notice to senior officials of the Education Ministry and NCERT, seeking an explanation on how the content was included.
