New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi spoke to the nation after the Women’s Reservation Bill failed in the Lok Sabha.
The bill needed more votes to pass. Out of 528 votes, it needed 352, but it got only 298 votes. Because of this, the bill could not pass.
PM Modi blamed the opposition for this. He said they did not support the bill because of their own interests.
He said he felt very sad and that women across the country are watching everything. He added that the dreams of many women have been hurt.
The Prime Minister also said sorry to the women of the country. He said the government tried its best but could not succeed.
After the bill failed, women MPs from the ruling party protested against the opposition outside Parliament.
PM Modi also said that the government has not given up and will try again to pass the bill in the future.
