Mumbai: During the municipal elections, many people complained about the ink used on voters’ fingers. Some parties said the ink disappears after a short time. Videos showing fingers without ink became viral and created doubt among voters.
State Election Commissioner Dinesh Waghmare cleared this confusion. He said the ink used in these elections is the same as the one used in Lok Sabha and Assembly polls.
“This ink cannot be erased. Once a person votes, the mark stays,” Waghmare said. He added that if anyone tries to vote again, polling officers will take action. He also said that false stories are being spread. “We have used this same marker pen since 2011. After it dries, it does not come off. Similar claims were made in earlier elections too,” he explained. The commissioner urged people not to believe rumors and to trust the voting system.
