Nagpur: Central government has reduced the NEET-PG 2025 cut-off to fill thousands of empty medical seats. More than 9,000 PG seats were vacant, even though India needs more doctors.
Now, the cut-off for General and EWS students is 7 percentile instead of 50. For PwBD students in the General category, it is 5 percentile. For SC, ST and OBC students, the cut-off is reduced to zero.NBEMS said this change will help more students join the counselling process. Around 2.4 lakh students applied for NEET-PG this year, but many could not qualify because the earlier cut-off was high.
India has nearly 70,000 PG medical seats. When many seats stay empty, hospitals face problems. Resident doctors are very important in government hospitals. Fewer doctors mean more work for others and less care for patients. This decision will not change exam marks or ranks. It only decides who can take part in admissions. The goal is clear — fill the seats quickly and send more young doctors to hospitals.
