Nagpur: A big explosion took place at SBL Energy Limited company in Rawalgaon village of Nagpur district on March 1, 2026. The factory makes explosive materials like gunpowder and detonators. After the blast, a huge fire started, which made rescue work very difficult. One more injured worker died during treatment, and the death toll has now reached 19.
Police have registered a serious case against 21 senior officials of the company. The case was filed under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for culpable homicide. The company owner, directors, plant managers, and safety officers are included in the case. Police have already arrested nine people, and teams are searching for others involved.
State minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule and Minister of State Ashish Jaiswal visited the accident spot and checked the situation with officials. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis ordered a detailed investigation to find out what caused the explosion and who was responsible.
Financial help has also been announced for the victims’ families. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced ₹2 lakh compensation for families of those who died and ₹50,000 for the injured from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund. The Maharashtra government will also give ₹5 lakh to each deceased worker’s family. Authorities said strict action will be taken after the investigation is completed.
