Nagpur: Political activity in Maharashtra has increased as the Rajya Sabha elections are coming closer. There are strong talks that Nagpur leader Maya Tai Ivnate may get a ticket from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the Rajya Sabha.
Family sources say that she is in Mumbai and may file her nomination soon. Preparations for the process are going on. The party has not officially announced her name yet, but discussions are said to be at the final stage.
Maya Ivnate is a tribal (Adivasi) woman leader from Nagpur. She has earlier worked as the Mayor of the city and is now a corporator in the Nagpur Municipal Corporation. She won in the recent local body elections. Her name is being considered as the party may want to send a woman from the tribal community to the Rajya Sabha from Maharashtra.
She has also worked as a member of the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes in Delhi and had the rank of Minister of State. She is known to be close to Droupadi Murmu. Because of her experience and background, many believe she has a strong chance. An official announcement from the BJP may come soon.
