New Delhi: As the Uttarakhand Assembly elections come closer, political activity in the state is increasing. Many leaders are changing their parties before the elections.
In a big move, former Rudrapur MLA Rajkumar Thukral and six BJP leaders have joined the Congress party. They joined in the presence of Congress leader Kumari Selja.
This move is important for state politics. Congress is trying to become stronger before the elections by bringing in experienced leaders.
Who is Rajkumar Thukral?
Rajkumar Thukral is a known leader from Rudrapur. He was elected as an MLA twice on a BJP ticket in 2012 and 2017.
In 2022, he did not get a ticket from BJP, so he decided to contest as an independent candidate. After this, BJP removed him from the party.
Before becoming an MLA, he also worked as a municipal council chairman. He has strong support in his area.
Other Leaders Join Congress
Former Roorkee Mayor Gaurav Goyal has also joined Congress. He has a strong hold in Haridwar district.
Also, Narayan Pal, who was an MLA from Sitarganj twice, has joined Congress. He won elections in 2007 and 2012 but lost in 2022.
These leaders joining Congress may help the party win more seats in the upcoming elections.
