Mumbai: Devendra Fadnavis presented the Maharashtra Budget 2026 in the state assembly on 6 March. This was a special moment because it was the first time a Chief Minister presented the state budget himself.
Most of the budget work had earlier been prepared by former DCM Ajit Pawar. While presenting the budget, Fadnavis remembered him and said the state has lost a hardworking leader. The Chief Minister announced that a memorial will be built in Ajit Pawar’s memory and a new public award will also start in his name.
Focus on Maharashtra’s future
The government said this budget is designed keeping the development of Maharashtra till 2047 in mind. Many projects related to culture, farming, roads and industries were announced.
Special programs will be held to mark the 200th birth anniversary of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule. The state will also improve facilities at Raigad to honour the legacy of B. R. Ambedkar. The government also informed that the memorial of Bal Thackeray is now complete.

The government has increased taxes on some products, so their prices may rise:
- Alcohol
- Cigarettes

- The government also shared several development plans for the state:
- More village roads will be built under the rural road scheme.
- Plans for a fast train between Mumbai and Pune.
- Support schemes for farmers and farm workers.
- New investment policy to attract industries and create lakhs of jobs.
- Development of gaming and creative technology industry in the state.
- Tourism projects like a ropeway at Vasota Fort in Satara.
- A new film city in Ramtek near Nagpur.
- Expansion of metro lines and expressways in many cities.
- Loan relief for farmers up to ₹2 lakh for eligible cases.
- The “Majhi Ladki Bahin” scheme will continue.
Overall, the Maharashtra Budget 2026 focuses on development projects, support for farmers, job creation, and better infrastructure across the state.
