New Delhi: Madras High Court has told former India captain MS Dhoni to pay 10 lakh for preparing a written copy and translation of a CD related to his defamation case. The order was given by Justice R N Manjula.
Dhoni had filed a 100 crore defamation case against retired IPS officer G Sampathkumar. The case is about claims that linked Dhoni’s name to the 2013 IPL betting scandal. To understand the case properly, the court said the content of the CD must be written down and translated.
The court said that earlier, on October 28, 2025, it had ordered that the media content be converted into written form and translated by the court’s official interpreter. The judge noted that this work is difficult and takes a lot of time.
The interpreter informed the court that the process may take three to four months. It will also need one interpreter and one typist working full-time.
The judge said that usually the person who files a case has to pay for such work. Since this work needs an official court interpreter, Dhoni will have to bear the cost.
The court has asked Dhoni to deposit ₹10 lakh in the Madras High Court Chief Justice Relief Fund account by March 12. The interpreter has been told to complete the work by the third week of March 2026.
The next hearing of the case will be held on March 12.
