Kolhapur : A painful accident on the Chandgad–Gadhinglaj highway has taken the lives of a young mother and her seven-day-old baby. The woman, Suvarna Kundekar, was on her way home after leaving the hospital post delivery.
Two vehicles hit each other from the front, leading to the deadly crash. Both the mother and her newborn died in the accident. The news left the entire area in deep grief.
After the incident, angry villagers gathered on the road. Blaming bad roads and careless driving, they set one car on fire. Emotions were high as people expressed their sorrow and anger.
People from Nesari village later marched to the police station demanding action. After the protest, one person was arrested in the case. Assistant Police Inspector Aba Gadhave was shifted to the control room. MLA Shivaji Patil stepped in and spoke to the villagers, after which the last rites were carried out.
Police said early findings suggest the accident may have happened due to poor road condition and human error. A full investigation is underway to find the exact reason.
Officials have reached the spot and started their inquiry. Locals have asked the administration to improve road safety so that such tragic incidents do not happen again.
This was not just an accident—it broke a family forever. A mother who had just begun a new chapter lost her life, and a baby who had just come into the world never got a chance to live.
