Mumbai: Jishnu Dev Varma took oath as the new Governor of Maharashtra on Tuesday evening in Mumbai. The oath ceremony was held at Darbar Hall in Lok Bhavan. Devendra Kumar Upadhyay, Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, administered the oath.
Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar, along with several ministers, senior government officers and police officials attended the ceremony. Many leaders congratulated the new Governor after the oath.
Dev Varma replaces Acharya Devvrat, who is the Governor of Gujarat and had been handling the additional charge of Maharashtra Governor for some time. Dev Varma is now the 22nd Governor of Maharashtra.
Before this role, Jishnu Dev Varma served as the Governor of Telangana. He earlier worked as the Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura for several years and handled important departments like finance and rural development. He is also known for his interest in art, culture and literature.
