New Delhi: The misuse of social media is increasing, especially in cases related to women and children. Because of this, a parliamentary committee has suggested a new rule to the Central Government.
According to this suggestion, people may soon need to complete KYC verification to use social media in India.
Right now, there is already a discussion about keeping young children away from social media. Some steps have also started in Karnataka.
The committee has said that not only social media, but also dating apps and online games should check users’ identity and age properly.
The main aim is to:
Stop fake accounts
Reduce online cheating and harassment
Improve safety for women and minors
The panel also suggested that:
Platforms should check user details again after some time
Accounts with many complaints should be watched closely
Strict rules may also be made for these platforms. If they do not follow the rules, action can be taken against them.
