Electricity prices to Fall, No Hike till 2030 – major decision announced

The Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission has announced good news for electricity users.

Mumbai: The Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission has announced good news for electricity users. The plan by Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited to reduce power rates has been accepted.

Power bills will slowly become cheaper

Electricity prices for homes, shops, and industries will go down every year till 2030. No category will see a price increase.

This decision was delayed earlier due to court cases in the Bombay High Court and directions from the Supreme Court of India. Now, after proper hearings, the final order is out.

More relief from April 1, 2026

Smart meter users will get 85 paise discount per unit for electricity used between 9 am and 5 pm

Businesses and industries will continue to get discounts:

15% off (April–September)

25% off (October–March)

Cheaper rates for homes

Up to 100 units: price will drop to ₹7.10 per unit

100 to 300 units: price will drop to ₹12.94 per unit

Overall, small users may save a lot in the next few years.

Benefit for industries

Big industries will also get a small cut in rates

Help for EV and solar users

EV charging rate will stay at ₹9.50 per unit for a few years

Housing societies can set up charging stations

Solar users will continue to get the same benefits

Clear plan till 2030

This new plan gives clear and steady relief in electricity bills for the next five years.
