After Trump’s warning, Cuba faces blackouts and big event shutdown

Cuba faces severe blackouts and fuel shortages after U.S. oil restrictions; annual cigar festival postponed as energy crisis deepens.

New Delhi : United States is one of the most powerful countries in the world. Its decisions often affect many other nations. Recently, a move by the US has created serious problems for Cuba. The Caribbean country is now facing a major electricity shortage. The US has placed restrictions on oil supplies linked to Cuba. Because of this, Cuba is struggling to get enough fuel to produce electricity. With less fuel available, long power cuts have become common across the country.

Due to the power crisis, Cuba has cancelled its famous cigar festival. The event is organized by Habanos S.A. and attracts cigar lovers and sellers from around the world. Visitors usually tour tobacco farms and take part in special auctions. This year, however, the festival will not take place.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump warned that countries supplying oil to Cuba could face penalties. Cuba imports about 60% of its oil, mainly from Venezuela and Mexico. After US action against Venezuela, fuel shipments to Cuba were affected, making the situation worse. Now, many are watching to see how Cuba will handle this fuel and power crisis in the coming months.
