Pune: Marathi Language Pride Day was celebrated across Maharashtra today with many cultural programs and events. Schools, colleges and government offices organised activities to honour the Marathi language and its traditions. A special discussion was also held during the ongoing state budget session to mark the day.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis spoke in the Assembly and shared his views on the importance of Marathi. He said Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj showed people how to take pride in their own language and worked to make Marathi stronger in administration and daily life. He added that Marathi has received greater recognition at the national level under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
During his speech, Fadnavis said Marathi changes from region to region and every area has its own style of speaking. He shared that when he first moved from Vidarbha, he had to adjust his way of speaking because language use in cities like Mumbai and Pune was different. He said these differences make Marathi more beautiful and should be respected.
The Chief Minister also highlighted the role of folk art and traditional songs in keeping the language alive. He said it is important to pass Marathi culture and traditions to the younger generation so that the language continues to grow and gain recognition across the world.
