Mumbai: Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis said that a memorial of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj will be built at Agra Fort, where the Maratha king was once kept captive.
Speaking during Shiv Jayanti celebrations in Agra, Fadnavis said the Maharashtra government had asked the Uttar Pradesh government for land to build the memorial. He added that the land process is almost complete and construction will start soon. He also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to attend Shiv Jayanti celebrations at the fort in 2030 after the memorial is ready.
The Chief Minister also talked about school textbooks. He said earlier Shivaji Maharaj’s history had very little space in NCERT books, while Mughal history had more chapters. Now, more pages have been added about Shivaji Maharaj’s life and achievements.
Fadnavis praised Shivaji Maharaj’s courage and said his dream of self-rule inspired people across the country. He added that celebrating Shiv Jayanti at Agra Fort is a matter of pride and special importance.
