New Delhi: Iran’s new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has spoken to the nation for the first time after taking charge. In his message, he warned the United States and Israel, saying Iran will respond to attacks and will not forget the people who were killed in the conflict.
Khamenei said many innocent people, including children, died in recent attacks. He added that Iran feels responsible to respond and ensure that their sacrifice is not forgotten. According to him, Iran will continue actions against enemy military bases.
He also said the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed for now. This sea route is very important for the world because around 20 percent of global oil passes through it. Closing this route can affect the global energy market.
Khamenei said Iran wants friendly relations with neighbouring countries, but it will not stay silent if it is attacked. He said Iran’s actions are focused on military targets of its enemies.
During his message, he also asked Gulf countries to shut down American military bases in the region. He warned that if the conflict continues, Iran could use more of its military power.
Khamenei thanked Iran’s army and security forces for protecting the country. He also asked people to join public rallies and show unity against foreign pressure.
He began his message by taking the name of Allah and said Iran wants justice and peace. However, he made it clear that the country will not step back in the current conflict.
Khamenei did not appear on camera during the speech. Earlier, Israeli intelligence had claimed that he might have been injured during the recent tensions.
