New Delhi: AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha has asked the government to bring a new law called “Right to Recall.” This law would allow voters to remove MPs and MLAs if they do not do their work properly or fail to keep their election promises.
He raised this issue during the Budget Session 2026 in Parliament. Chadha said democracy should not end on voting day. People should have the power to act if their elected leader does not perform.
He said that before elections, leaders meet people and make many promises. But after winning, many of them become inactive and hard to reach. Voters then have to wait for five years to choose someone else. According to Chadha, this is not fair.
He explained that the Right to Recall would make leaders more responsible. It would remind them that they are answerable to the public at all times, not just during elections.
Chadha also said that some countries already have this system. In India too, there are ways to remove high officials like the President or judges. Some states even allow removal of local body members through a legal process. So, he believes the same rule should apply to MPs and MLAs.
He said this step will improve the quality of leaders and make democracy stronger.
