Nagpur: A major explosion at a factory in Nagpur district killed 17 workers and injured 18 others on Sunday morning. The blast happened at SBL Energy company located in Katol area. All injured people were taken to nearby private hospitals, where treatment is going on. Doctors said around 10 injured workers are in critical condition.
Officials said the explosion took place in the explosive unit of the factory in Katol. The blast was very powerful and caused heavy damage inside the factory. Local residents heard a loud sound and panic spread in the surrounding area. Rescue teams quickly reached the spot and started relief work.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari expressed sadness over the incident. He paid tribute to the workers who lost their lives and shared condolences with their families. He also prayed for the quick recovery of the injured workers.
Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis also called the incident very unfortunate. He said district officials and police immediately reached the site and rescue teams were sent for help. The Chief Miynister informed that an investigation has been ordered to find out the exact cause of the explosion.
Considering the seriousness of the tragedy and the loss of innocent workers, a high-level review meeting has been scheduled on March 2 at the Divisional Commissioner’s office. Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said important facts related to the investigation are expected to come out soon as the probe continues.
