Nagpur: Enforcement Directorate (ED) took big action in Nagpur district on Friday over sand mining case. ED teams carried out searches at the same time in many areas such as Saoner, Khapa and Patansawangi. Around 56 people’s houses and offices were checked, causing tension and discussion across the district.
Officials said action is related to illegal sand mining and the money earned from it. ED is mainly looking into how the money was collected, transferred and used.
As per information, case was first registered when Amitesh Kumar was the Nagpur Police Commissioner. Later, Nagpur Police handed over the case to the ED for further investigation. After this, the ED started a detailed probe from the money laundering angle.
Sources also claim that some of the people whose places were searched have links with Congress leader and former minister Sunil Kedar. After this large operation, there is strong reaction and concern in political and administrative circles in Nagpur.
