New Delhi: Karnataka government has taken an important decision about children and social media. The state has decided that kids under 16 years old will not be allowed to use social media platforms.
CM Siddaramaiah shared this announcement on Friday while presenting the budget in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly.
Government said many children are spending too much time on mobile phones and social media. Because of this, their studies, sleep, and mental health can be affected. To reduce these problems, the government decided to stop social media use for children below 16.
With this step, Karnataka could become the first state in India to bring such a strict rule for social media and young children.
Earlier, leaders in Andhra Pradesh and Goa had also talked about controlling children’s social media use, but no final decision was announced there.
The government believes this rule will help children spend less time on phones and focus more on school, sports, and other healthy activities.
