New Delhi: Board of Control for Cricket in India recently organised its annual Naman Awards ceremony in Delhi to honour players and teams for their achievements during the year. Many well-known names from Indian cricket attended the event, including Shubman Gill, Smriti Mandhana and former coach Rahul Dravid. Several Indian teams that won big international tournaments were also recognised.
But the event soon became a topic of discussion on social media because of two mistakes made during the program. When the team that won the Under-19 Women’s World Cup was called on stage, the screen behind them showed the wrong photo. Instead of the Under-19 players, the picture of the senior Indian women’s team led by Harmanpreet Kaur appeared on the screen.
Another mistake happened during a talk session with team captains. Rohit Sharma, who captained India to the Champions Trophy title, was not present at the event. Shubman Gill joined the discussion instead. However, the screen mistakenly described Gill as the Champions Trophy-winning captain, which was not correct.
Many fans, especially supporters of Rohit Sharma, expressed their anger online after noticing the errors. Later, the Board of Control for Cricket in India removed the video from social media after facing criticism. The mistakes left several cricket fans disappointed with the management of the award ceremony.
