Mumbai: In Baramati, the by-election has reached an important stage as only one day is left to withdraw nominations. NCP leader Sunetra Pawar has again called Congress state chief Harshvardhan Sapkal and asked the party to take back its candidate so the election can happen without a fight.
After the death of Ajit Pawar, this by-election was announced. Sunetra Pawar is the NCP candidate, while Congress has given a ticket to Akash More. The last date to withdraw names is April 9.
NCP and its allies want this election to be unopposed. Earlier, this seat was linked to Sharad Pawar’s group, but since no candidate was given from that side, Congress decided to enter the race.
Congress leaders have said the final decision will be taken after talking to senior leaders in Delhi. They will decide whether to stay in the election or step back.
Meanwhile, Sunetra Pawar also met Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and it is expected that BJP will support her.
Out of 53 candidates, 6 have already withdrawn. Now 47 candidates are still in the race. With very little time left, all eyes are on Congress and what it decides next.
