Mumbai: World-famous music director A.R. Rahman recently shared his thoughts on life, work, and faith in an interview. At present, he is composing music for director Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming film Ramayana. He is also working with Hollywood composer Hans Zimmer on this project.
Rahman said that for the last eight years, he has been getting very little work in Bollywood. He feels that internal politics in the film industry has played a role. He explained that sometimes he is chosen for a film, but later removed because companies prefer to use their own music teams.
He spoke about his school days and said he studied in a Brahmin school where stories from Ramayana and Mahabharata were taught every year. “These stories teach truth and good values. I believe we should accept good lessons from anywhere,” he said.Rahman added that knowledge is valuable, no matter who gives it. “Hans Zimmer is Jewish, I am Muslim, and together we are working on a Hindu epic. I am proud because this story from India will reach people across the world,” he shared.
On the topic of bias, Rahman said he has not faced it openly, but it may exist quietly. He also feels that today, people who are not creative are taking important decisions in the industry. “I don’t run after work. I believe good work should bring new work,” he said.
