Mumbai: 68th Maharashtra Kesari wrestling tournament will take place in Wagholi, Pune, from March 18 to March 22. The announcement was made by Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol along with the Maharashtra State Wrestling Association. The event is expected to attract many wrestlers and sports lovers from across the state.
The official logo of the tournament and the traditional silver mace (gada) were unveiled in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Mohol said the competition will be organised on a large scale and will help promote traditional wrestling in Maharashtra.
Around 800 wrestlers from different parts of the state are likely to take part in the tournament. Matches will be held in different weight categories, and both clay and mat wrestling events will be organised during the five-day competition.
The Maharashtra Kesari tournament, which started in 1961, is one of the most respected wrestling competitions in the state. The winner receives the famous silver mace, which is considered a symbol of pride for wrestlers in Maharashtra.
