New Delhi: Government has decided not to fully end the current Budget Session of Parliament. Instead, both Houses will meet again soon to discuss important work.
The Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will sit again from April 16, and meetings will continue on April 17 and 18.
During these three days, the government plans to move forward with a law to give more seats to women in Parliament and state assemblies. This will need a change in the Constitution.
Government’s plan
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that some important bills are ready and have been shared with opposition leaders. He also said a big bill will be brought in the coming weeks, so the session will restart for a short time.
Opposition questions timing
Opposition leaders are not happy with the timing. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said the bill should not be discussed during election time.
He said that earlier, when the bill was passed, the opposition wanted it to be used immediately. But the government delayed it, saying that steps like census and seat division (delimitation) were needed first.
Now, he says the government is bringing it up again because elections are happening in some states.
