New Delhi: The league stage of the T20 World Cup 2026 is now over, and all eyes are on the Super 8 round. India, Pakistan, South Africa, England, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe and West Indies have reached the next stage after strong performances.
In the Super 8 round, these eight teams will fight for a place in the semi-finals. The teams will be divided into two groups, and each group will play six matches, making a total of 12 games. The top two teams from both groups will move forward to the knockout stage.
At the same time, planning for the next T20 World Cup has already started. The 2028 edition will be hosted jointly by Australia and New Zealand. Teams that reached the Super 8 stage in 2026 have received direct qualification for the 2028 tournament. These teams include India, Pakistan, South Africa, England, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, West Indies and Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe achieved this milestone for the first time, so they will not need to play qualification matches.
Even though Australia was knocked out in the group stage this year, they have qualified automatically as one of the host nations. New Zealand also gets direct entry as a co-host and as a Super 8 team.Apart from them, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Ireland have also secured direct qualification based on ICC rankings. With 12 teams already confirmed, the remaining eight spots will be decided through qualification events over the next two years.
