Mumbai: Rajya Sabha elections are happening across the country. In Maharashtra, voting will be held for seven seats. According to the current numbers in the state assembly, the ruling Mahayuti alliance can win six seats. One seat is likely to go to the opposition alliance, Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA).
The Maha Vikas Aghadi has announced its candidate for this seat. Senior leader Sharad Pawar will contest the Rajya Sabha election from the alliance. The decision was shared in a press conference in Mumbai.Maharashtra Congress chief Harshvardhan Sapkal said that leaders discussed the name with alliance partners before taking the final decision. After talks, everyone agreed to support Sharad Pawar.
MP Supriya Sule thanked all parties in the alliance for their support. She said she and Jayant Patil met Uddhav Thackeray and had a long discussion. After that meeting, both Shiv Sena (Uddhav group) and Congress agreed to back Pawar.In the assembly, the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena has 20 MLAs, Congress has 16, and Sharad Pawar’s NCP has 10. These numbers are enough for the alliance to win one seat. Some independent MLAs may also support them.
