Nagpur: Heavy rain, strong winds, and hailstorms over the past two days have badly affected farmers in Maharashtra. Many crops that were ready for harvest have been damaged or destroyed.
Areas like Jalna, Beed, Yavatmal, Solapur and Nanded saw sudden weather changes. Hail fell in many villages, and rainwater filled the fields.
Crops like wheat, gram, onion, and fruits have suffered the most. In some places, farmers had already cut their crops, but rain spoiled everything lying in the fields.
In Solapur, grape farms were badly hit. In Nanded, turmeric and banana crops were damaged. Farmers in Beed said hailstones destroyed both standing and ready crops.
Even small workers faced losses. In Washim, idol makers lost their work due to rain. Brick businesses in Palghar were also affected.
Farmers are now asking the government for quick help and compensation. Many say they have lost their main source of income.
Weather experts say more rain may come in the next few days, which is worrying for farmers.
