New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi said on Thursday that wars cannot solve global problems and countries should focus on talks and diplomacy. He made this statement during a joint press conference with Alexander Stubb, the President of Finland.
Modi said both India and Finland believe in following international law and solving issues through discussion. He said military action alone cannot bring peace, whether it is the war in Ukraine or the rising tensions in West Asia. He also said global organisations must change and improve to handle today’s challenges.
His remarks come as tensions between the United States, Israel and Iran have increased in recent days. The situation became more serious after attacks on Iran, which reportedly led to the death of Iran’s top leader Ali Khamenei.
At the same time, an Iranian naval ship, IRIS Dena, was hit by a missile near the coast of Sri Lanka on Wednesday, killing many people onboard. Officials said the ship had earlier visited India for the International Fleet Review 2026 held in Visakhapatnam between February 16 and 25.
PM Modi also said that despite global tensions, India and Europe are strengthening their partnership. He added that the new India–European Union Free Trade Agreement will help increase trade, investment and technology cooperation between India and Finland.
