New Delhi: In a big step for women’s rights, the Supreme Court of India has said that women who adopt a child will now get 12 weeks of maternity leave.
Before this, adoptive mothers could not always get this leave, especially if the child was older. Now, the court has removed such limits. This means women can take maternity leave no matter what age the adopted child is.
The court explained that maternity leave is not only for physical rest after birth. It is also important for spending time with the child, understanding them, and creating a strong bond. Adoptive mothers also need this time just like other mothers.
The judges also removed an old rule that was unfair to adoptive mothers. They said all mothers should be treated the same.
This decision is expected to help working women and may also encourage more people to adopt children. It is a positive step for both mothers and children in India.
