Mumbai: The central government presented the Women’s Reservation Bill, also known as the Nari Shakti Vandan Bill, in the Lok Sabha on Friday. But the bill could not pass because it did not get enough votes. This is seen as a big setback for the government.
After this, opposition leaders criticised the government. Shiv Sena (Thackeray group) MP Sanjay Raut also spoke strongly against it.
Raut made fun of the slogan “Modi hai to mumkin hai.” He said now it should be called “Modi hai to namkeen hai,” and claimed that leaders give big speeches but nothing serious happens.
He also said that the bill, brought by Amit Shah, may have been brought to embarrass Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He added that the BJP does not have enough numbers to pass such an important bill.
Raut claimed that the real aim of the bill was not to give reservation to women. He said the plan was to increase Lok Sabha seats from 543 to 850 so the ruling party could stay in power for a long time.
He also said the bill could create fights in the country, like North vs South and men vs women, just for politics.
Raut added that if the government really wanted to give reservation to women, it could have given 33% seats within the current 543 seats. He said the opposition was ready to support this.
In the end, Raut accused the government of misleading people in the name of women and said the opposition has exposed the truth.
