Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut has strongly spoken against the Maharashtra government over a controversy about Maratha queen Maharani Tarabai.
The issue started after Jain monk Acharya Nayan Padmasagar said that Tara Rani belonged to the Jain community. Raut disagreed and said this is wrong.
He said Tara Rani was born in a Hindu Maratha family. She was the daughter of Hambirrao Mohite, who was a top commander of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. He asked, “Was Hambirrao Mohite also Jain?”
Raut said Tara Rani fought bravely against Aurangzeb to protect the Maratha kingdom. He added that changing such history is not right.
He also criticized Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde for not reacting to the statement. He said the government should take action.
Raut also mentioned Devendra Fadnavis and accused the leaders of allowing such issues.
Talking about Mangal Prabhat Lodha, Raut said Tara Rani fought for her kingdom, not for buildings or business.
This issue has now become a big political debate in Maharashtra.
