Mumbai: Following the death of MLA Shivaji Kardile, the Election Commission has announced a by-election for the Rahuri Assembly constituency. Voting is scheduled to take place on April 23.
Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has named Akshay Kardile, son of the late Shivaji Kardile, as its candidate. This announcement has put an end to all the speculation around the party’s choice.

Former MLA Prajakta Tanpure, linked to the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) led by Sharad Pawar, had shown interest in contesting the election. There were also reports that he might join the BJP to get a ticket. However, with Akshay Kardile’s selection, those discussions have now ended.
As the ticket has been given to a member of Shivaji Kardile’s family, there is a possibility that the election could be uncontested. Attention is now on the NCP’s decision, as the opposition’s next move will likely depend on it.
