New Delhi: The second day of the special session in Lok Sabha saw heavy shouting and chaos. Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi spoke strongly against the government while discussing changes to the Women’s Reservation Bill.
He started his speech with a childhood story, but soon began attacking the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He said the BJP should stop “hiding like cowards” behind the people and the army. He made it clear that the opposition is only criticising the government, not the country or its forces.
Rahul Gandhi said this is not really a women’s bill because the Women’s Reservation law was already passed in 2023. He claimed the new bill is actually trying to change the election system.
While he was speaking, the Speaker asked him to talk only about the bill. Still, Rahul Gandhi said the opposition will not support the bill in its present form.
He also said the bill is unfair to SC, ST, and OBC communities and may reduce their representation. He accused the government of being afraid and trying to follow the same approach used in Assam and Jammu & Kashmir in the whole country.
In the end, Rahul Gandhi said the bill is not about helping women, but about staying in power. He also warned that it could create division and harm social justice.
