New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi has written a letter to leaders of all political parties, asking them to support and pass the Women’s Reservation Amendment Bill during a special three-day Parliament session starting April 16.
In his letter, Modi urged MPs to back the bill, saying this moment is bigger than any single party or individual. He also mentioned that an important and historic discussion will take place during this session. The bill is expected to clear the way for implementing the “Nari Shakti Vandan Act” from the 2029 Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.
Meanwhile, the Indian National Congress has called a meeting of all opposition parties on April 15 to discuss key issues. Opposition leaders are demanding the implementation of Article 334A of the Constitution, which provides 33% reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies, including seats reserved for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
Some opposition parties, especially from South India, have also strongly opposed the government’s plan to carry out delimitation based on the 2011 Census.
