Mumbai: Central Government is planning to introduce a new grading system for driving licences to reduce road accidents and improve traffic discipline. Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari shared this information while speaking about road safety measures.
Under the new system, every driver will get a certain number of points on their licence. If someone breaks traffic rules like crossing a red signal, driving too fast, or using a mobile phone while driving, some points will be cut from their licence record.
If a driver keeps breaking rules and loses all the points, their driving licence will be suspended for six months. For serious traffic offences, the licence may be cancelled permanently.
The government hopes this step will make drivers more careful on roads and help reduce accidents by encouraging people to follow traffic rules properly.
