Pune: In the latest development in the Nasrapur case, the Maharashtra government has taken strict steps by forming a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the brutal rape and murder of a three-and-a-half-year-old girl in Pune district. The incident, which came to light on May 1, has triggered massive outrage across the state.
According to officials, the SIT has begun a detailed investigation and is recording statements of key witnesses. The team will closely examine all evidence to ensure a fast and strong case against the accused.
The case was also discussed in the state cabinet meeting, where Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis directed authorities to take stringent action. He also instructed the Law and Judiciary Department to explore changes in the law so that those accused of serious sexual crimes are not granted parole easily, especially repeat offenders.
Police have already arrested the accused, 65-year-old Bhimrao Kamble, who is currently in police custody till May 7. He has been charged with murder, rape, and offences under the POCSO Act. Officials confirmed that he had a criminal history with similar charges in the past.
The formation of the SIT is seen as a major step to speed up the investigation and ensure justice. Meanwhile, protests continue in different parts of the state, including candle marches, as citizens demand the strictest punishment for the accused and stronger laws to prevent such crimes in the future.
