Nanded: A shocking incident has come to light in Nanded after a medical student ended her life in a hostel. Police have registered a case against a leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar faction), which has created tension in the city.
The student, Akanksha Gaikwad (25), was studying in the second year at Shamrao Kadam Homeopathic Medical College in Nanded. She had been living in a private hostel in the Hadco area for the last two years while completing her studies.
Found dead in hostel room
On Friday afternoon, Akanksha was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her hostel room. Other students noticed the situation and informed the police. Officers from Nanded Rural Police Station reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem.
Family blames hostel owner
Akanksha’s family has accused the hostel owner of troubling her over unpaid fees. Her father said the owner had been repeatedly asking her to clear the pending hostel charges for several months.
According to the family, this constant pressure made her very stressed and she finally took the extreme step.
Police register case
After the complaint from the family, police filed a case against Jeevan Ghogre Patil, who is linked to the NCP (Ajit Pawar group). The case includes charges of forcing someone to take their own life and also sections of the SC/ST Atrocities Act.
More details about the hostel
Around 40 girls are said to be staying in the same hostel on a cot-sharing system. Each student reportedly pays about ₹2,500 per month. Some local people have also raised questions about whether the hostel has proper permission to operate.
City reacts to the incident
The student’s relatives gathered at the police station demanding action, after which the case was officially registered. The incident has sparked discussion in local political circles, and the police are continuing their investigation.
